02 ACADEMY, BRIXTON

DMA’s— 12/02/26

From start to finish, the crowd at the DMA’s second night at Brixton’s 02 Academy did not stop singing, giving the Aussie band the same energy back that came radiating off the stage as they celebrated 10 years since the release of smash debut album, ‘Hills End’.

DMA’s showed what made their debut album so special, celebrating its 10th birthday last night at Brixton Academy, with arms outstretched and bucketfuls of energy.

Performing ‘The Hills’ cover to cover followed by a ‘greatest hits’ encore, their 2016 debut has truly stood the test of time. The Aussie trio know just the ingredients for an anthemic chorus; the Brixton venue resembling a football stadium with unending cheers and chants. Beer and vodka Red Bull perfumed the air, and it’s clear to see why the band chose it for a live recording in 2021, back 5 years later to do it all over again.

Support came from Matt Felix and The Guestlist (pictured), two visually striking performers who entrapped and warmed the crowd with their tambourines and captivating stage presence.

The DMAs acknowledged sincere gratitude for the space that’s changed their lives, as appreciative of the welcome they receive each time they rock up as the chanting crowd were to have them back ‘in situ’ – even if it is halfway across the world from their Sydney hometown. Their rowdy audience, heavily dominated by men, moshed, shouted, pushed, shoved and crowd surfed, with more than a few cans caressing the air. It seemed less like aggression and more like outbursts of passion with nowhere to go, for a band who received an honourary ‘welcome home’ on a glory tour of nostalgic hits.
